The Diet

There are few squirrels that live on the tree adjoining my house and some in the empty room in my terrace. I always thought squirrels loved peanuts ! So one day I suddenly decided to feed them peanuts -so I would lay some peanuts for them to eat everyday. And my cat at home, Coco was the manager :) she would sit inside the house (You can imagine what would happen if she went out) and watch the squirrels eat. So one day when I was not at home and when we were out of peanuts, my good at heart housekeeper gave the squirrels cooked rice instead. Little did we realize that they loved rice as well. And one day as there was no left over rice, my maid tried giving them corn flakes and I kept a few left over penne pasta to check if they liked to eat it — and guess what — along with the squirrels, we had a few beautiful green parrots, and a few crows and an Asian koel who lives on the tree and a kite — all come to eat the corn flakes and the pasta. I don’t know if it is ok for them to eat all this but I realized that covid has made these animals eat whatever they found. And when I told this to one of my spiritual guides, he said — “I never knew parrots were on a diet :)”. So now we have a menu that we offer to these birds and the squirrels. I think they are very selective. The crows and the koel like pasta, the parrots like cornflakes, the kite likes the rice :) and these cute squirrels would eat anything and everything, unlike what I had assumed before this incident and my baby coco would keep an eye on everyone while they ate, like a perfect hostess from inside the house :) not outside ;) !!!
